Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG)
Liquefied natural gas (LNG) is formed by cooling natural gas to a very low temperature (-162°C) until it condenses into a cryogenic liquid. In this state it has significantly higher energy content per volume – 1 litre of LNG contains approximately 600 litres of natural gas. If vehicle storage space is limited then LNG would be the ideal solution. LNG is stored on the vehicle in a vacuum insulated, double skinned stainless steel tank, designed to give maximum storage life.
As with normal fossil fuels, LNG is also available in different grades; the LNG used for dual fuel operation should contain high levels of methane (preferably 95%).
